Description

Cheilopogon fisunovi Parin & Belyanina 1998 —Pacific spotfin flyingfish

Status at New Ireland. Reported from Bismarck Sea off Kavieng, New Ireland in original description as Cheilopogon furcatus fisunovi by Parin & Belyanina (1998: 595, 596).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: in tropical and warm temperate parts of the Pacific Ocean. Epipelagic in oceanic waters, 0–20 m depth. Marine.

Remarks. Cheilopogon fisunovi is considered as valid, and raised to the species level here, in accordance with the principles stated in the Methods section.
