Platylus Mulsant and Rey 1859

Description

Platylus Mulsant and Rey, 1859

(Figs. 31–36, 53)

Platylus Mulsant and Rey 1859: 70, 1860: 134, type species: Blaps dilatata Fabricius, 1798 by monotypy; Gebien 1938: 294 [413]; Iwan 2004: 739.

Remarks. The extremely flat and broad form of this montypic genus is easily recognized and not readily associated with any of the other flightless blapstinoids. The absence of specimens and records from mainland Puerto Rico is curious.
