Catharsius tricornutus

Description

Catharsius tricornutus (De Geer, 1778) (Fig. 3B)

Previously recorded from Angola, DRC, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe (Ferreira 1972).

New country record for Swaziland: Four specimens, Malolotja Nature Reserve, 14–15 April 2015 and 1 April 2016. One specimen, Mantenga Nature Reserve, 2 April 2015. Crepuscular/nocturnal. At Malolotja Nature Reserve, specimens were found in burrows under zebra dung, and in zebra dung-baited pitfall traps operated overnight. At Mantenga Nature Reserve, a specimen was dug out of a burrow underneath cattle dung, and elytra and other fragments were found.
