Lanistes ciliatus

Description

ciliatus

Lanistes ciliatus Martens, 1878: 296, pl. 2, figs. 8–10. Type material — holotype [by monotypy]: ZMB 30060 (Köhler & Glaubrecht 2006: 201). Type locality —“Finboni, Sansibar-Küste” [= “ Kenya, Finboni, near the coast, between Mombassa and Taita” (Köhler & Glaubrecht 2006: 201)]. Distribution —coastal region of southeastern Kenya (Brown 1980: 52, 1994: 61).

Remarks. Valid species, teste Kobelt (1911: 23), G.B. Sowerby III (1916: 69), Pilsbry & Bequaert (1927: 186), Brown (1980: 52, 1994: 61) and Berthold (1991: 246), who all (except Sowerby, who placed it in Lanistes subg. Leroya) placed it in Lanistes s. str.
