Psicoda pulla Rondani, 1863

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 90.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Chiliae [Chile]”.

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 specimen, syntype (sex not determinable, only thorax, part of abdomen and some legs remain) (MZUN: Box Coll. entomol. extra-europea, Fam. Tipulidae - Gen. Sciara a Culex): Psicoda pulla Rnd., Chili [= Chile] / M. Zool. N° 10882.

CURRENT STATUS: doubtful species of Psychodidae (Duckhouse 1973: 16).

REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 90) described Psicoda pulla, without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens, from material received from R.A. Philippi. Costa (1866: 40) listed a single MZUN specimen numbered “944”. We also found one syntype in this study. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name Psicoda, which is an “unjustified emendation of Psychoda Latreille, 1797 ” (O’Hara et al. 2011: 153).
