Description

146. Haemaphysalis simplex Neumann, 1897.

An Afrotropical species, all of whose parasitic stages are usually found on Afrosoricida: Tenrecidae. Adults and nymphs have occasionally been recorded from Primates: Indriidae; adults alone have been collected from Rodentia: Muridae, and Pelecaniformes: Threskiornithidae, while nymphs have been found on Primates: Cheirogaleidae. There are no records of Haemaphysalis simplex causing human parasitism.

Note: Camicas et al. (1998) list the larva of Haemaphysalis simplex as undescribed, but it was described in Uilenberg et al. (1979).
