Placoclytus championi (Bates, 1885)

Neoclytus? championi Bates, 1885: 302.

Placoclytus championi; Chemsak & Linsley, 1974: 130; Monné, 2021: 153 (cat.).

Bates (1885) described Placoclytus championi in Neoclytus Thomson, 1860, but indicated that he had doubts about the genus of the species (“ Neoclytus (?) championi ”). Originally, this species was described based on a single specimen from Guatemala. Chemsak & Linsley (1974) described Placoclytus, designated Neoclytus championi as its type species, and added Mexico (Chiapas) as a new country record. Later, Turnbow et al. (2003) also recorded it from Honduras (Ocotepeque).

Material examined. HONDURAS, Lempira (New department record): Cerro las Minas, 2700 m, Camp Quetzal, Torre Centro, 14º28’46”N, 88º38’35”W, 1 male, 17. VI.2018, E. van den Berghe col. (DHCO). NICARAGUA (New country record), Nueva Segovia: Cerro Jesus, 12.08ºN, 86.18ºW, 1150 m, 1 male, local collector & E. van den Berghe col. (DHCO).
