Description

Ujna cavipenis sp. nov.

(Figs 2, 3)

Length. Body length of male: 3.7–3.8 mm; length of crown: 0.44 mm; length of pronotum: 0.46 mm; interocular width: 0.38 mm; width of crown and pronotum: 0.75 mm. Body length of female: 4.2 mm; length of crown: 0.56 mm; length of pronotum: 0.54 mm; interocular width: 0.42 mm; width of crown: 0.82 mm; pronotum width: 0.83 mm.

Coloration. Dorsum dark brown. Crown with black patch on anterior and posterior area, with three oval yellow patches centrally; ocelli reddish brown; eyes dark brown, yellowish brown in ventral view; face whitish (Figs 2a, 2b, 2c). Pronotum with longitudinal faint yellow stripe extending to mesonotum apex (Fig. 2a). Forewing brown, costal margin with long white patch subapically interrupted by red oblique stripe (Figs 2b, 2g). Female color as in male (Figs 2 d–2f).

External features. Crown anterior margin angularly convex, width between eyes as long as pronotum; median length longer than interocular width and slightly shorter than length of pronotum; lateral frontal sutures extending onto crown and attaining ocelli; coronal suture one half median length (Figs 2a, 2e). Frontoclypeus and anteclypeus shallowly elevated, anteclypeus nearly parallel sided with broadly rounded apex (Figs 2c, 2d). Forewing parallel sided, apex slightly truncate (Fig. 2g).

Male genitalia. pygofer lobe in lateral view triangular, apex pointed; without process on ventral margin; ventroposterior margin with eight spine-like setae; lobe with scattered fine setae medially (Fig. 3a). Anal tube elongate, dorsal bridge very short (Fig. 3b). Subgenital plates elongate, narrowed distally, apices extended beyond posterior margin of pygofer; with uniseriate row of macrosetae centrally and long microsetae on inner margin (Figs 3a, 3c). Connective Y-shaped, as wide as long, arms well separated, median anterior lobe absent. Style elongate, sinuate at midlength, apex pointed; with three long setae and few microsetae on outer margin (Fig. 3d). Aedeagus with preatrium weakly developed, dorsal apodeme relatively long and slender; shaft in lateral view elongate and S-shaped, slightly depressed dorsoventrally, expanded and fluted apically around dorsal gonopore, constricted preapically in posterior view with pair of slender distal lobes forming V(Figs 3 e–3i).

Female features. Crown longer than interocular width; frontoclypeus wider than in male (Figs 2d, 2e). First valvulae in lateral view (Figs 2i, 2j) slightly broadened in apical half and tapered to apex, with diagonal imbricate sculpture dorsally and apically; preapical ventral baculiform area present. Second valvulae in lateral view (Figs 2k, 2l) slightly shorter than 1st valvulae, apex subacute; dorsal margin of blade irregularly serrated near midlength, apical half crenulate with small and closely spaced dorsal teeth, extending to ventral margin on apex.

Etymology. The species name combines the Latin word cavus meaning concave, with penis, referring to the concave or fluted apex of the aedeagus.

Material examined. Holotype: , China, Hainan Province, Wuzhi Mountain (693 m), 14 June 2019, coll. Yan Jiang. Paratypes, 1♂, 1♀, data same as holotype (all GUGC).

Remarks. The new species can be separated from the other species in Ujna by the male pygofer lacking ventral processes and aedeagus S-shaped in lateral view with a fluted apex surrounding a dorsal gonopore.
