Description
Cynosurus echinatus Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 72. 1753.
"Habitat in Europa australiori." RCN: 605.
Lectotype (Veldkamp in Cafferty & al. in Taxon 49: 249. 2000): Herb. A. van Royen No. 913.62-79 (L).
Current name: Cynosurus echinatus L. (Poaceae).
Note: Although Kerguélen (in Lejeunia, n.s., 75: 124. 1975) stated "Type: …LINN”, this is not accepted as a formal typification, for the reasons explained by Cafferty & al. (in Taxon 49: 240. 2000). Meikle (Fl. Cyprus 2: 1726. 1985) indicated unspecified material in LINN as type but did not distinguish between sheets 91.2 and 91.3 (which are not part of a single gathering so Art. 9.15 does not apply).
