Description

Amaryllis capensis Linnaeus, Plantae Rariores Africanae: 10. 1760.

["Habitat ad Cap. b. Spei."] Sp. Pl., ed. 2, 1: 420 (1762). RCN: 2330.

Type not designated.

Original material: none traced.

Current name: Spiloxene capensis (L.) Garside (Liliaceae / Hypoxidaceae).

Note: Garside (in J. Bot. 74: 267. 1936) noted specimens in Burman’s herbarium (G) believed to be annotated by Linnaeus and which "are undoubtedly the type specimens".
