Description
Lichen roccella Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 1154. 1753.
"Habitat in insulis Archipelagi, Canariis, ad rupes marinas." RCN: 8244.
Lectotype (Howe in Bull. Torrey Bot. Club 39: 201. 1912; Jørgensen & al. in Bot. J. Linn. Soc. 115: 350, f. 55. 1994): Herb. Linn. No. 1273.263, lower specimen (LINN).
Current name: Roccella tinctoria DC. (Roccellaceae).
Note: Jørgensen & al. (in Bot. J. Linn. Soc. 115: 350, 380, f. 55. 1994) restricted Howe’s original type choice to one of the specimens on the sheet.
