Lichen chrysophthalmos Linnaeus, Mantissa Plantarum Altera: 311. 1771.
"Habitat in Cap. b. spei rupibus." RCN: 8193.
Lectotype (Howe in Bull. Toney Bot. Club 39: 201. 1912): Herb. Linn. No. 1273.89 (LINN).
Current name: Teloschistes chrysophthalmus (L.) Th. Fr. (Teloschistaceae).
Note: Specific epithet spelled “chrysophtalmos” in the protologue. See review by Jørgensen & al. (in Bot. J. Linn. Soc. 115: 291, 374, f. 16. 1994).
