Description
Lathyrus annuus Linnaeus, Demonstr. Pl. Horto Upsaliensi: 20. 1753.
["Habitat in Hispania, Monspelii."] Sp. Pl., ed. 2, 2: 1032 (1763). RCN: 5395.
Lectotype (Lassen in Turland & Jarvis in Taxon 46: 474. 1997): Herb. Linn. No. 905.22 (LINN).
Current name: Lathyrus annuus L. (Fabaceae: Faboideae).
Note: Meikle (Fl. Cyprus 1: 569. 1977) indicated material at LINN as type, but did not distinguish between sheets 905.22 and 905.23. Other authors (e.g. Jafri in Jafri & El-Gadi, Fl. Libya 86: 286. 1980) indicated both of these collections as the type. However, the two collections are evidently not part of a single gathering so Art. 9.15 does not apply, and Lassen’s later type choice is therefore the earliest effective typification.
