  • 1. Department of Botany, Natural History Museum, Cromwell Road, London, UK

Description

Gnidia tomentosa Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 358. 1753.

"Habitat in Aethiopia." RCN: 2834.

Neotype (Rogers in Rogers & Spencer in Taxon 55: 486. 2006): South Africa. Western Cape Province, Kalk Bay Mountain, Cape Peninsula, above Boyes Drive, 2 Jun 1974, P. Goldblatt 2024 (MO-2243060).

Current name: Gnidia tomentosa L. (Thymelaeaceae).

Note: Peterson (in Rechinger, Fl. Iranica 95: 473, 476. 1959) noted the existence of three specimens in LINN. However, all are post-1753 additions to the herbarium, and Rogers therefore designated a neotype.
