Replaced synonym: Millepora calcarea Pall. (1766).
Lectotype (Irvine in Spencer & al. in Taxon, in press): [icon] " Corallium pumilum album, fere lapideum, ramosum" in Ellis, Nat. Hist. Corallin.: 76, t. 27, f. C. 1755. - Epitype (Woelkerling & Irvine in Spencer & al. in Taxon, in press): United Kingdom. Cornwall, St Mawes Bank, 11 Dec 1983, BM Box 1626 (BM-000562555).
Current name: Phymatolithon calcareum (Pall.) W.H. Adey & D.L. McKibbin (Corallinaceae).
Note: A superfluous name for M. calcarea Pall. (1766). Woelkerling & Irvine (in Brit. Phycol. J. 21: 58. 1986) designated a neotype for the Pallas (and hence the Linnaean) name, but as Pallas cited numerous illustrations (which are original material), their choice is contrary to Art. 9.11.
