Description
Vaccinium uliginosum Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 350. 1753.
"Habitat in Sueciae borealibus & alpinis, uliginosis." RCN: 2702.
Lectotype (Vander Kloet in Taxon 30: 647. 1981): Herb. Linn. No. 497.3 (LINN).
Generitype of Vaccinium Linnaeus (vide Vander Kloet in Taxon 30: 647. 1981).
Current name: Vaccinium uliginosum L. (Ericaceae).
Note: Vaccinium uliginosum, with the type designated by Vander Kloet, was proposed as conserved type of the genus by Jarvis (in Taxon 41: 571. 1992). However, the proposal was eventually ruled unnecessary by the General Committee (see Barrie, l.c. 55: 795-796. 2006 for a review of the history of this and related proposals).
