  • 1. Department of Botany, Natural History Museum, Cromwell Road, London, UK

Description

Oldenlandia paniculata Linnaeus, Species Plantarum, ed. 2, 2: 1667. 1763.

"Habitat in India orientali." RCN: 984.

Lectotype (Merrill in J. Arnold Arbor. 19: 368. 1938): Herb. Linn. No. 155.10 (LINN).

Current name: Hedyotis racemosa Lam. (Rubiaceae).

Note: Trimen (Handb, Fl. Ceylon 2: 317. 1894) says that this is "entirely based on a figure of Burman". However, as pointed out by Merrill (l.c.), and Biju & al. (in Rheedea 2: 12. 1992), this illustration is not part of the protologue. Merrill is here accepted as having made an effective choice of type; see Biju & al., f. 1B for an illustration of the type specimen.
