Digitalis purpurea Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 621. 1753.

Lectotype (D’Arcy in Woodson & Schery in Ann. Missouri Bot. Gard. 66: 216. 1979): Herb. Linn. No. 775.1 (LINN).
Generitype of Digitalis Linnaeus (vide Green, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 168. 1929).
Current name: Digitalis purpurea L. (Scrophulariaceae).
Note: Hinz (in Candollea 42: 168. 1987) also accepted 775.1 (LINN) as type, illustrating it as her f. 1.
