Episyron conterminus subsp. posterus

Description

Episyron conterminus posterus (Fox)

CA: Los Angeles County, Longbeach; 18 August 2015; jose_23109. Host: Araneus cf bispinosus (Keyserling) (Araneidae), adult female. The wasp attempted to drag the paralyzed orbweaver, dorsal side upward, on the ground then releasing her grasp with her mandibles (Jose_23109 2015).

MEXICO: Campeche State, Calakmul Municipality, Calakmul Biosphere Reserve; 25 March 2020; J. Phangurha (Phangtastic_beasts). Host: Eriophora ravilla (C. L. Koch) (Tropical orbweaver) (Araneidae), subadult female. Several photos and short videos show the wasp excavating a ground chamber and grasping the paralyzed tropical orbweaver, dorsal side upward, by the left foreleg with her mandibles (Phangurha 2020).
