Asca aphidioides Linnaeus 1758

Description

Asca aphidioides (Linnaeus , 1758)

Acarus aphidioides Linnaeus, 1758: 616.

Gamasus aphidioides.— Fabricius, 1805: 361.

Asca aphidioides.— Vitzthum, 1929: 30; Oudemans, 1936: 366; Womersley, 1956: 511; Evans, 1958b: 584; Hirschmann, 1959: 4; Ryke, 1961: 127; Schweizer, 1961: 136; Bernhard, 1963: 67; Hurlbutt, 1963: 484; Wood, 1965: 134; 1966: 48; De Leon, 1967b: 49; Aoki, 1968: 151; Genis et al., 1969a: 88; Karg, 1971b: 274; 1993: 282; Baker et al., 1976: 57; Tseng, 1981: 12; Farrier & Hennessey, 1993: 26; Lee et al., 1997: 37; Kalúz & Fenďa, 2005: 119; Gwiazdowicz, 2007: 59; Kontschán, 2007: 102; Kontschán & Ujvari, 2013: 79.

Asca (Asca) aphidioides.— Karg, 1979b: 259; 1996: 161.

Zercon bicornis (Canestrini & Fanzago, 1877).— Berlese, 1887b: 8. Misidentification, according to Lindquist & Evans, 1965: 42; Karg, 1993: 282; Halliday et al., 1998: 17.

TYPE DEPOSITORY: not stated.

TYPE LOCALITY AND HABITAT: Europe.

NOTE: Farrier & Hennessey (1993: 26) mistakenly considered Gamasus (Seius) bicornis G. Canestrini & Fanzago, 1877 as a junior synonym of Asca aphidioides, probably by not considering that Zercon bicornis (sensu Berlese, 1887b: 8) not Gamasus (Seius) bicornis G. Canestrini & Fanzago, 1877 had been considered in the literature the same as A. aphidioides.
