ABSTRACT

Quetiapine Fumarate is a (atypical antipsychotic) psychotropic agent that belongs to the dibenzothiazepine class used for the treatment for schizophrenia. Patients, particularly pediatric and geriatric patients, have difficulty in swallowing solid dosage forms thus orodispersible drug delivery system have the combined advantages of both liquid and conventional tablet formulation and offer added advantage over both the traditional dosage form. In the present work orodispersible tablets of Quetiapine Fumarate were prepared by direct compression using superdisintegrant - Kollidon CL in different concentration (1to10%) were used. The prepared tablet were subjected to pre compression parameters like angle of repose , Compressibility index, Hausner ratio and post-compression parameters like uniformity of thickness, hardness, friability, weight variation, drug content uniformity, wetting time, and disintegration time. Among the prepared batches of tablets of Kollidon CL having greater concentration showed better pre compression and post compression parameters which was within the range. The disintegration and wetting time was decreased with increase in the concentration of the superdisintegrant. Thus the dosage form having superdisintegrant of Kollidon CL (10%) was found to be ideal for pediatric and geriatric, bed ridden and non-cooperative patients to get faster disintegration at no time.
