Type locality: Algerian Sahara, between Kef-el-Dhor and Chegga; Biskra-Bordj-Saada; Zab-el-Zig south of El Meranyer

Nomenclatural status: invalid junior homonym of Agama aspera Daudin, 1802 and junior subjective synonym of Trapelus mutabilis (Merrem, 1820) The taxon name Agama aspera Werner, 1893 is not available for nomenclatural purposes within the genus Agama.
