Description
Pellina semitubulosa var. pontica f. horhippiana Czerniavsky, 1880
Pellina semitubulosa var. pontica f. horhippiana Czerniavsky, 1880: 111 (no illustration).
The forma was described by Czerniavsky from Novorossijsk, Russian Black Sea coast, approximate coordinates 44.68°N 37.82°E, depth 2–10 m (‘holotype’ ZIN-RAS 11428). The combination is invalid on account of having four names (ICZN art. 45.5). Pellina semitubulosa (Lamarck, 1814: 455, as Spongia) is recognized as an ill-known Mediterranean species, currently named Halichondria (Halichondria) semitubulosa (cf. Erpenbeck & Van Soest 2002: 804). The specimen of the present forma is to be assigned to that species.
