Soesiladeepakius gasnieri Ruiz & Maddison 2012, SP. NOV.

Description

SOESILADEEPAKIUS GASNIERI SP. NOV.

(FIGS 19–32, 51)

Type: Holotype: male from Reserva Florestal Adolpho Ducke, Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil, 26.iii.-30.iv.2002, E.P. Fagundes, deposited in IBSP 120587. Paratypes: one male and two females, same data (IBSP 120570, 120586, 120584).

Etymology: The specific epithet is in honour of Dr. Thierry Gasnier (Universidade Federal do Amazonas), Brazilian arachnologist who helped collecting fresh material for DNA extraction.

Diagnosis: Males of this species can be distinguished from those of the other known species by having a projection on the prolateral side of the base of the embolus and the RFA spade-shaped (Figs 22–23).

Description: Male holotype. Total length: 2.57. Carapace light brown, 1.20 long, 0.84 wide, 0.45 high, variegated with dark brown on posterior borders. Ocular quadrangle 0.67 long. Anterior eye row 0.98 wide, posterior 0.86 wide. Clypeus densely covered with long white scales. Chelicera yellow. Endite, labium, and sternum yellow. Palpal femur with a dorsal fringe of white scales, a small ventral, proximal rounded projection and a very developed, almost bifid retrolateral, proximal apophysis covering a small tubercle hidden in the depression (Figs 22–23); ventrally, the palpal femur has two keels, the prolateral one restricted to the distal portion (Fig. 51). Palpal tibia with a small, dorsoretrolateral apophysis. Cymbium with proximal, retrolateral projection and prolateral acute apophysis. Tegulum ventrally flattened, with a distal, prolateral flap (Fig. 23) and a proximal, retrolateral apophysis attached to the base of the embolus (median apophysis?) (Figs 22, 27–28). Embolus long and straight, lying longitudinally across the tegulum; a small retrolateral projection and a larger, prolateral one at embolus base (Fig. 25). Legs 4123 yellow, I prolaterally and retrolaterally dark brown. Length of femur I: 0.67, II: 0.50, III: 0.45, IV: 0.59, patella + tibia I: 0.89, II: 0.67, III: 0.61, IV: 0.78, metatarsus + tarsus I: 0.67, II: 0.59, III: 0.67, IV: 0.89. Front leg spines very robust (tibia v2-2-2, metatarsus v2-2); other spines absent, except for femora d1-1-1, tibia II v1r-2-0, and metatarsus II v1r-1r. Abdomen yellow, with three transverse dark brown stripes on the background, covered with a wide, light brown scutum along all its length; three pairs of tufts of white scales on the dorsal surface, and a medial tuft just above the anal tubercle (Figs 19–20); ventrally with a small, light brown scutum restricted to the posterior portion (Fig. 21). Spinnerets yellow, variegated with dark brown.

Female (IBSP 120586). Total length: 3.07. Carapace light brown, 1.23 long, 0.89 wide, 0.42 high, not darker on borders. Ocular quadrangle 0.64 long. Anterior eye row 1.00 wide, posterior 0.89 wide. Clypeus glabrous. Chelicera, endite, labium, and sternum as in male. Palp yellow, variegated with dark brown. Cymbium with one retrolateral, one prolateral, and two dorsal spines. Legs 4123 yellow. Length of femur I: 0.78, II: 0.64, III: 0.56, IV: 0.67, patella + tibia I: 0.95, II: 0.73, III: 0.67, IV: 0.89, metatarsus + tarsus I: 0.73, II: 0.61, III: 0.73, IV: 1.00. Front leg spines as in male; other spines absent, except for femora d1-1-1, tibia II v2-2-2, and metatarsus II v2-1r. Abdomen yellow, with no conspicuous pattern, only variegated with dark brown. Epigynum with anterior lateral openings, longitudinal copulatory ducts extending posteriorly, converging at the posterior border, where small spermathecae are located (Figs 29–32). Spinnerets as in male.
