Description

Male. Body reddish brown, mouthparts and tarsi lighter; BL 1.54. Head (Figure 3E) wider than long, HL 0.29, HW 0.37. Vertexal foveae distinct, anterior edge of foveae at level of posterior margin of eyes; LE: LP = 1.56: 1. Eyes well-developed, prominent, each comprises about 18 facets. Antennae with scapes thick and large, pedicels larger than antennomeres III, III–IV subequal, V–VI subequal in width, each slightly wider than IV, VII–VIII slightly wider than VI, IX–XI (Figure 4E) strongly clubbed; semimembranous apophysis on antennomere IX as in Figure 7E; antennomeres X much wider than long, XI with two basal protuberances each covered with tuft of long setae at apex.

Pronotum about as long as wide, PL 0.37, PW 0.38. Elytra combined wider than long, EL 0.46, EW 0.61. Abdomen wider than long, AL 0.42, AW 0.54; tergite IV 2.1 times as long as next. Aedeagus (Figure 8E) lost after the dissection.

Female. Similar to male in size: BL 1.44–1.61, HL 0.28–0.30, HW 0.37–0.39, PL 0.35–0.38, PW 0.37–0.40. Elytra combined wider than long, EL 0.41–0.42, EW 0.55–0.59, AL 0.40–0.51, AW 0.52–0.56. Eyes each comprises about 13 facets.

Habitat and distribution

Sifted from the mixed leaf litter of a broad-leaved forest. East China (Zhejiang).

Etymology

The species name is derived from the type locality.

Remarks

The new species is placed in the group of species with antennomere XI having two basal protuberances with blunt or rounded apices and with a deep notch between them. This group includes S. rufus, S. vafelus, S. excavatus S. clavalis and a number of new species described below. Sathytes longwangshanus is considered closest to S. vafelus in sharing the more basal protuberance of antennomere XI with two thick and widely separated apical setae. It may be separated by having antennomere XI less broad, notch between the protuberances deeper, and the more basal protuberance with longer apical setae. Sathytes longwangshanus is also close to S. rufus by the similar form of antennomere XI. It may be separated by length of eyes being about 1.5 times as long as postocular margins, antennomere IX being transverse, and protuberances of antennomere XI each covered with several long apical setae. Whereas in S. rufus, length of eyes is about six to eight times length of postocular margins, antennomere IX as long as wide, the more apical protuberance of antennomere XI is covered with tuft of short setae and the more basal one lacks setae.
