Recently, major developed nations such as the United States and China are considering artificial intelligence as a core technology that will innovate national competitiveness and future warfare. These nations are making national efforts to preoccupy technology. The United States also selected artificial intelligence as a top priority for national R&D in response to the increasing threat of competitors such as China and Russia, and established a national strategy to present its vision. The U.S. Department of Defense and the Army also announced AI strategies in response to national AI agenda, expressing their vision and will for the military application of AI. The U.S. Department of Defense has presented AI's military operation objectives, strategic approaches, and strategic focus areas in the AI strategy, and the U.S. Army describes its AI application goals, means, and methods. These two strategic documents are well-connected to each other and contain various strategic implications. It has many implications for the establishment of our military's AI strategy. In this paper, we tried to derive implications for the Korean military through theoretical considerations on the AI strategy of the U.S. Department of Defense and the Army.

최근 미국, 중국 등 주요 국가들은 인공지능(AI)을 국가 경쟁력과 미래전의 양상을 바꿀 핵심기술로 판단하고 기술선점을 위해 국 가적 총력을 기울이고 있다. 특히 미국은 중국, 러시아 등 경쟁국의 위협 증대에 대응하여 인공지능을 국가 연구개발의 최우선 과제 로 선정하고 국가 차원의 비전을 제시하고 전략을 수립하였다. 미 국방부와 육군도 국가 차원의 인공지능 전략과 연계하여 ‘인공지능 전략’을 발표하면서 인공지능의 군사적 활용을 위한 비전과 의지를 표명했다. 미 국방부는 인공지능 전략에서 인공지능의 군사적 활 용 목표, 전략적 접근, 전략적 중점분야를 제시하였으며, 미 육군은 인공지능 적용 목표, 수단, 방법을 보다 구체화하여 기술하였다. 이 두 가지 전략문서는 상호 전략이 잘 연계되어 작성되었으며, 그 내부에 여러 전략적 함의를 담고 있고, 우리 군의 인공지능 전략 수립에 많은 시사점을 주고 있다. 본 논문에서는 미 국방부와 미 육군의 인공지능 전략에 대한 고찰을 통해 우리 군에게 주는 시사점 을 도출하고자 하였다.
