Woollard, Matthew (2019). Evaluation of a digital transcription of English parochial registers, 1538-1851: a pilot study. [Data Collection]. Colchester, Essex: Economic and Social Research Council. 10.5255/UKDA-SN-850001

Data description (abstract)

This pilot proposal has five main objectives - To assess the accuracy of the transcription of a machine-readable version of 129 baptismal, marriage and burial registers from Bedfordshire, covering the period 1538-1851. To compare the counts of demographic events made by earlier scholars with the events returned in these databases. To assess the comprehensiveness of the coverage of demographic events in these registers. To create distributable versions of these databases for the HE/FE community. To produce a work-flow system for the ingest of all other parish-register data to be made available by the GSU.
