Foreword: This volume contains the proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Innovative Intelligent Industrial Production and Logistics (IN4PL 2022), which was held in Valletta, Malta as a hybrid event, from 24 to 26 October. IN4PL is sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC). This conference focuses on research and development involving innovative methods, software and hardware, whereby intelligent systems are applied to industrial production and logistics. This is currently related to the concept of industry 4.0 - an expression reflecting the trend towards automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies and processes which include cyber-physical systems, the industrial internet of things, industrial robotics, cloud computing, cognitive computing and artificial intelligence. These technologies can be applied to industrial manufacturing and management as well as to supply-chain or logistic problems, involving for example transportation management or the optimization of operations. In addition to paper presentations, IN4PL’s program included three keynote talks delivered by internationally distinguished speakers: Oleg Gusikhin, Ford Motor Company, United States), Assembly Line Fitness Analytics, Maria Grazia Speranza (University of Brescia, Italy), Trends in Transportation and Logistics and the Role of Optimization and Lihui Wang (KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden) Factories of the Future through AI-Driven Smart Manufacturing. The conference also included two workshops: IFAC/IFIP International Workshop on Enterprise Integration, Interoperability and Networking - EI2N 2022, chaired by Georg Weichhart, Hervé Panetto, Milan Zdravkovic and Raquel Sanchis and the International Workshop on Emerging Trends and Case-Studies in Industry 4.0 and Intelligent Manufacturing - ETCIIM 2022, chaired by Ludger van Elst, Tulay Caglayan Ozlu and Kurosh Madani. These workshops contributed to the community with oral presentations (full and short papers), which have also been included in the proceedings book. IN4PL received 35 paper submissions from 20 countries, of which 46% were accepted as full papers. The high quality of the papers received imposed difficult choices during the review process. To evaluate each submission, a double-blind paper review was performed by the Program Committee, whose members are highly qualified independent researchers in the IN4PL topic areas. All presented papers will be submitted for indexation by Scopus, Google Scholar, DBLP Computer Science Bibliography, Semantic Scholar, EI (Elsevier Engineering Village Index), and Web of Science/Conference Proceedings Citation Index (Clarivate). A short list of papers presented at the conference will be selected for publication of extended and revised versions in the CCIS (Communications in Computer and Information Science) Series book by Springer. Another short list of papers will be invited for a post-conference special issue of the Springer Nature Computer Science Journal. All papers presented at this conference will be available at the SCITEPRESS Digital Library. We express our thanks to all participants. We also deeply thank the invited speakers for excellent contributions in sharing their knowledge and vision.
