Grover’s disease

Introduction
Grover’s disease (transient acantholytic dermatosis) is a rare skin disease characterised by papules or vesicles located mainly on the chest and proximal limbs, and accompanied by pruritus. The disorder is most prevalent in elderly men. Histopathologically, it presents with foci of acantholysis and dyskeratosis. The course of the disease is usually mild, however systemic therapy might be required.

Objective
To present the case of a patient with Grover’s disease.

Case report
A 78-year-old man after resection and radiotherapy for prostate cancer was admitted to the Dermatology Department for the diagnosis of multiple papular and vesicular eruptions located on the torso and limbs. The skin lesions were accompanied by pruritus which intensified after sweating and hot baths. Based on the results of histopathological and clinical examinations, the diagnosis of Grover’s disease was made. Oral acitretin at 25 mg/day was initiated. The skin condition improved significantly, and pruritus resolved.

Conclusions
On account of the rarity of the condition and polymorphic skin lesions, the diagnosis and treatment of Grover’s disease can be a challenge.
