Abstract:
The growth of the world population triggers the increase of production of solid waste. In Brazil, the situation is even more serious, because, besides the fact that the Brazilian population produces a high quantity of waste, the final destination for them is inappropriate. In this context, energy recovery by thermochemical processes can be a good option, reducing the waste volume for final disposal and recovering useful energy. The adequate design and operation of a waste incineration plant requires the prediction of the amount of energy that can be obtained from the waste used as fuel. Several models for predicting the heating value of MSW have been developed. This paper presents a prediction model for the Lower Heating Value (LHV) of the Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) from the city of Santo André, based on experimental data using multivariate regression. The model proposed presents a deviation of 1,77% and a MAPE index of 6,48%.
