Summary

From 2010 through 2019, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, collected horizontal-to-vertical seismic soundings at 100 locations in upstate New York and 1 location in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania to evaluate the technique (control-point measurements) and to support aquifer-mapping projects (Heisig, 2012, 2015). The HVSR technique, commonly referred to as the passive-seismic method, is used to estimate the thickness of unconsolidated sediments and the depth to bedrock (Lane and others, 2008; Fairchild and others, 2013). Purpose

Data were collected to: 1) test the HVSR technique in different hydrogeologic environments, 2) make measurements at control points where depth to bedrock was known and overlying unconsolidated deposits were characterized, and 3) support aquifer mapping studies.
