Summary

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in collaboration with the Platte River Recovery and Implementation Program, collected capacitively coupled (CC) resistivity data and six direct push sediment cores to identify the coarsest alluvial deposits underlying the Morse properties in central Nebraska to supplement the subsurface geologic information, for the purposes of proper siting of intentional recharge structures, and to improve current understanding of groundwater movement. The subsurface geology is described in three different data sets in varied file formats. First, for the direct-push cores, data are given as detailed descriptions of core lithology and texture and are provided in Comma Separated Values (CSV) file format. Second, the [...]

Purpose

Intentional recharge is increasingly being used to increase stream flow and to strategically retime base flow to the Platte River. To properly site and construct berms or check structures for intentional recharge additional subsurface information is often needed. Surface geophysical data, when combined with sediment core information, can provide the needed data to estimate the thickness of fine-grained deposits, allowing for the determination of the location and permeability of fluvial and gravel deposits in a given project area.
