In the first year of the Meiji Era, the Tokugawas were forced to move to the Shizuoka clan, due to the Restoration of the Imperial rule. Both Shizuoka Academy and Numazu Academy of the Tokugawas were founded in the Shizuoka clan. Among the books compiled and published in Numazu to be used as the textbooks for Numazu Academy, there are six kinds of books (abbreviated as 'Numazu' henceforth) in which we can find the printed letters of '沼津学校', that is, Numazu Academy, the publisher's name, and a red seal of '徳川蔵版' meaning copyrighted by the Tokugawas, on the title page. This red seal resembles closely that of '徳川蔵版之爾' which is found on a colophonin a type of A Pocket Dictionary of the English and Japanese language, Second and Revised Edition, printed in 1869, (abbreviated as 'Shuchin' henceforth).
Both 'Numazu' and 'Shuchin' have the red seal of '徳川氏改印' on the title page, which is the publication stamp of the Tokugawas, and the printed letters of '蔵田屋清右衛門' on the colophon.
And both '徳川氏改印' and '蔵田屋清右衛門' don't appear in the books which Shizuoka Academy of the Tokugawas published.
From these facts, the writer draws an inference that 'Shuchin' was also published by Numazu Academy.
