본 연구는 업 사이클링의 개념을 바탕으로, 생산단계에서 발생하는 잉여 원단을 활용한 업 사이클링 패션디자인을 제안하고 구현하고자 한다. 잉여 원단의 재활용을 통해 심미적 가치가 높은 업 사이클링 패션디자인의 활성화와 새로운 가능성을 재조명하고, 실용적인 업 사이클링 패션디자인 방안을 제시하는데 목적이 있다. 연구방법은 업 사이클링 패션디자인 개념을 고찰하고, 관련 선행연구를 통해 특성 및 유형을 분석하였으며, 유형별 사례를 기반으로 외적 특성을 도출하였다. 또한, 추상표현주의의 개념 및 대표작가와 작품을 고찰하고 특성을 도출 및 재해석하였으며, 모티브로 드로잉 작업을 하였다. 이를 잉여 원단을 활용하여 구현하고 디자인으로 전개하였으며, 총 4점의 업 사이클링 패션디자인을 제안하였고, 그중 1점은 실제 작품으로 제작하였다. 그 결과, 도출된 외적 특성은 디자인 전개 시 각 디자인에 효율적으로 활용되며, 특히 수공예적 특성을 활용할 수 있어 창의적 창출의 가능성을 확인할 수 있다. 추상표현주의 특성을 분석하고 재해석한 드로잉 작업을 모티브로 하여, 잉여 원단으로 구현하고 디자인으로 전개함으로써 기존 작품과의 심미적 차별성과 희소성의 가치를 지닌 결과물로 구현됨을 알 수 있었다. 그러므로, 잉여 원단은 업 사이클링 패션디자인을 구현하기 위한 재료로서 활용가치가 충분하며, 패션 시장의 경쟁력을 갖춘 상품개발과 패션디자인 분야의 업 사이클링 상품개발에 원동력이 될 수 있다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이를 통해 긍정적인 업 사이클링 패션디자인의 가능성을 제시할 수 있었으며, 향후 버려지는 잉여 원단을 활용한 심미성과 실용성의 가치가 높은 업 사이클링 패션디자인의 작품 연구와 제품 개발이 지속적으로 이루어지길 바란다.

Based on the concept of up-cycle, this study attempts to propose and implement up-cycle fashion design using surplus fabric occurring in the production phase. The objective of this study is to review the vitalization and new possibilities of up-cycling fashion design with high aesthetic value through the recycling of surplus fabrics, and also to suggest the measures for the practical up-cycling fashion design. As the research methods, this study considered the concept of up-cycling fashion design, analyzed the characteristics and types through the relevant preceding researches, and also drew the external characteristics based on cases of each type. Also, on top of considering the concept of abstract expressionism and its representative artists and their works, and then drawing and reinterpreting the characteristics, this study performed the drawing work as a motif. It was realized and developed into design by using the surplus fabrics. Total four up-cycling fashion designs were suggested, and one of them was produced into an actual work. As a result, the drawn external characteristics were efficiently used for each design when developing into design, and especially, the possibility of creative creation was verified as the characteristics of handicraft could be utilized. By analyzing the characteristics of abstract expressionism, and realizing and developing the reinterpreted drawing work as a motif into design with the use of surplus fabrics, it could be realized into a result with the value of aesthetic differentiation and scarcity of the existing works. Therefore, the surplus fabrics have enough value of utilization as a material for realizing the up-cycling fashion design, and they could become a driving force for the development of competitive products in the fashion market and also up-cycling products in the fashion design area. Through this, the possibility of positive up-cycling fashion design could be suggested, and there should be continuous researches and development of up-cycling fashion design works and products with high value of aesthetics and practicality utilizing the abandoned surplus fabrics in the future.
