Thank you for sharing this interestring work. I am curious to know if the clay used for CWF production was a typical clay or was it sourced nearby known or potential contaminated sources. In other words, how representative is this phenomenon in terms of whereall CWF production takes place? Any estimates of typical As content in unfired clay versus fired clay? It would be interesting to see if As was lost in vapour form on firing? There is an interesting talk on As release from volcanic activity "Elevated Natural As in Surface Water Around the Guallatiri Volcano, Northern Chile", so gaseous route is a distinct possibility. if so, the residual As in CWF after firing is still high enough to leach and cause 800 ppb of contamination. Another related question is: why is there no CWF production in India (from the map shown by you)? The sanitation issues pointed by you are relevant in parts here as well, but people do use cermaic candle based filters for bacterial removal. Are these candles made the same way as the CWFs? Finally, from your abstarct I was looking forward to some data on phase trasnformation, such as identity of phases before and after firing. Perhaps you could discuss on that during the discussion session. Thank you for considering these questions.
