ABSTRACT

There has been a substantial rise in quantitative survey research in studying governance networks. In this chapter we discuss and review this body of research. When is it helpful to use a survey approach on governance networks? What are the outcomes of survey research in this field so far? What are the strengths and limitations of this approach? Building on a limited, but systematic, review among quantitative survey studies on governance networks, we answer these questions and discuss several dilemmas in the design of survey research on governance networks as well as avenues for future research using this approach.
