ABSTRACT

The connections between people, animals, and the environment are deep and complex. The exploration of these connections is the premise for the concept of One Health. At its core, One Health is a collaborative approach to the issues that arise at the intersection of human, animal, and environmental health. It upholds the promise that the health of one cannot be achieved without impacting the health of another. Solving One Health issues requires a transdisciplinary approach to conduct innovative research and to implement policies and services that benefit the earth and the animals and humans that inhabit it for generations to come. Through careful communication, collaboration, and coordination, all invested stakeholders can play a part in advancing the ideology of One Health. In this chapter, we explore the past, present, and future of One Health.
