ABSTRACT

If there is going to be one constant in the future it will be change. Although Western societies have come to accept change as a function of or substitute for progress, the pace at which it takes place is likely to accelerate, with change being felt nowhere more strongly than in processes involving information handling. As society becomes more dependent on the rapid and efficient flow of information, the numbers involved in related occupations are likely to grow. Libraries will need to adjust to this relationship, of different and more sophisticated demands and to develop new roles in order to meet users' needs.
