ABSTRACT

Mona is the director of learning outcomes at High Hill University. This role is new to the division of student affairs; however, the culture of evaluation and assessment at High Hill is strong. As part of her job, she is responsible for submitting the outcomes data from the student affairs division. She quickly realizes that data at High Hill are tremendously unreliable or nonexistent for many offices. Each year departments and units in student affairs at Speedy College submit reports that describe and document yearly activities and contributions to student learning. The template of what to include is standard; however, departments and units are encouraged to be creative with format and presentation. Annually, at an end-of-the-year summit, each unit presents its annual report to cabinet-level leadership. Hannah is committed to designing research procedures to assess advising effectiveness. She is convinced that to obtain valid data, she must keep the research participants ignorant in many respects.
