ABSTRACT

Comprehensive care for athletes with injuries calls for a holistic interprofessional approach, which, by default, brings together professionals representing various disciplines. With each professional having their own codes guiding their work, it is critical that professionals work ethically within their unique “lane” and scope of practice on behalf of the athlete with injuries. This chapter serves to discuss several ethical areas associated with sport psychology professionals involved in the provision of services for athletes in and out of sport injury and rehabilitation. Using codes of ethics from the Association for Applied Sport Psychology and the International Society for Sport Psychology, this chapter will demonstrate the importance of ethics in sport injury. The chapter will outline relevant ethical issues, principles, standards, and virtues pertinent to sport injury rehabilitation and explain the process of ethical decision-making and its role in sport injury.
