ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors utilize an intersectional approach to explore how the family experience of mass incarceration is shaped by factors such as race, social class, and place. In addition, the chapter incorporates a discussion of the lived experience of family member incarceration within Idaho, a state dominated by rural communities and small cities. One of the co-authors, a system-involved wife and mother, has been instrumental in developing a support group for families in Idaho dealing with incarceration.
