ABSTRACT

The impacts of climate change on health in India are wide-ranging and affect all ages, genders and socioeconomic strata. A 2019 Lancet report showed that the public health gains achieved in the past 50 years could soon be reversed by a changing climate. A recent report in Nature places India amongst the top countries facing a high social and economic cost of climate change. Climate change and health are impacted by, and impact, temperature, heat and cold waves, agriculture, nutrition, disease, pollution, maternal and child health, etc. The chapter also looks at mitigating initiatives such as The Health Mission, identified by the Prime Minister’s Council on Climate Change.
