ABSTRACT

The return to play (RTP) process in elite soccer often requires all performance personnel in order to minimize time lost from injury. The most common injuries in soccer, along with the epidemiology, will be examined thoroughly in this chapter. A variety of rehabilitation frameworks will be addressed, for multiple injuries, as well as staff integration throughout the process. Key performance indicators in the RTP process are identified, as well as the monitoring strategies associated. Staff integration can be varied, dependant on the environment; therefore, a continuum is introduced in this chapter. Novel methods are introduced and investigated for their validity, reliability, and practicality in the elite soccer environment. At the elite level, practitioners must overcome many barriers, including lack of staff, time constraints, and management expectation.
