Introduction

In a very brief introduction, the author gives the theoretical reasons, based on Freudian metapsychology but also on her personal experience, for her interest in the notion of primary erotogenic masochism described in 1924. She even regards it as the “navel” of the whole theoretical edifice of psychoanalysis.
