ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the development of mindfulness- and compassion-oriented integrative supervision (MCIS). It is an approach to supervision that emphasises the importance of mindful awareness and compassion in supervision practice. MCIS is an integrative and transtheoretical approach. Its concepts and methods can be used within various supervision approaches. It has its roots in mindfulness- and compassion-oriented integrative psychotherapy, the integrative relational approach to supervision, and scientific research of supervision. In this chapter, the authors present MCIS's fundamental principles. MCIS is a process-based supervision model founded on processes of change that facilitate supervision effectiveness. The authors present core processes of change in supervision related to different dimensions of human experience: Interpersonal, cognitive, affective, physiological, behavioural, spiritual, and contextual. In MCIS, mindfulness and compassion are viewed as meta-processes of change that influence all other change processes.
