ABSTRACT
The goal of this chapter is to present the characteristics, results, and applications of eye-tracking for researching pragmatics. Due to the limited number of studies in this area, and the almost nonexistent contributions focusing specifically on pragmatic features of Spanish, the chapter adopts a broad view that could set the stage for further language-specific research. Specifically, recent applications of eye tracking to the study of social interaction and multimodality are outlined (e.g., the integration of gestures, body posture, facial expressions), underscoring the central role that non-verbal behavior plays in the negotiation of meaning.
