ABSTRACT

Principles of Good Practice in Continuing Education is enthusiastically endorsed by distinguished figures in the field of adult and continuing education. A concern for quality dominates the planning, conduct, and evaluation of graduate programmes in adult education. Since the Commission of Professors of Adult Education was established in 1955, the number of graduate programmes in adult education has increased dramatically. One result has been the shift of graduate study in adult education from an emerging field to a recognised field of graduate study with distinctive features. Standards for adult education programmes must take into account guidelines and standards for graduate programmes, requirements for teaching loads, advising, etc., set by the school or college in which the adult graduate programme is located; and other constraints. The standards are grouped under the following categories: curriculum, faculty, organisation of graduate study, students’ programmes, resources and facilities, and scholarship.
