ABSTRACT

In this last chapter, we will analyse the starting conditions for the successful or unsuccessful mastering of developmental tasks. The available personal and social resources will be mapped out as decisive factors. We will then discuss the most common consequences of unsuccessful coping in three steps: outward-oriented, evasive, and inward-oriented problem behaviour. In the last section, we will examine the question of what influence gender, social background, and migration status have on the ability to successfully or unsuccessfully master developmental tasks.
