ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a programme of activities initiated by the Social Services Inspectorate directed at managers and trainers in social services agencies. It shows how a range of approaches were used to identify the position of women in social services, to give voice to their experience and provide advice and guidence on how to achieve change. Because of the position of the Inspectorate within the Department of Health, these issues gained additional authority and credibility and were brought directly to the attention of senior managers. This helped raise the profile of women in social services and accelerate the process of change.
