Chapultepec is the oldest urban forest in the Americas, and is among those claiming the greatest historical legacies. The story of Chapultepec is bound to the history of Mexico. The First Section of Chapultepec Forest is a green area filled with long-lived trees in the central zone of Mexico City. Chapultepec has been a strategic place since pre-Hispanic times and a setting for many battles. Chapultepec Forest has gone from being a sacred place to being the foremost setting for culture and the arts in Mexico. In the central part of the First Section rises Grasshopper Hill, which gave name to the Chapultepec Forest, a natural stronghold in the ancient landscape of the Valley of Mexico.
